Series update: Umoja Basketball and Equity Dumas are tied 1-1 in the quarter-finals. Equity took Game 1 by 68-50, Umoja answered 62-58 in Game 2, and Game 3 is Friday, September 11, 2026 at Nyayo, with tip-off time to be confirmed.
The playoffs rarely give you time to feel sorry for yourself. One day, you are staring at the scoreboard wondering where the rhythm went. The next, you are back on the floor, asked to prove whether the story is finished or only beginning.
For Umoja Basketball, the answer came on Sunday.
After falling 68-50 to Equity Dumas in Game 1 on Saturday, Umoja returned with a stronger response in Game 2, edging Equity 62-58 at Nyayo to bring the quarter-final series back to life. It was not smooth. It was not pretty. But it was playoff basketball, and Umoja found a way to survive.
Game 1 Hurt
Game 1 belonged to Equity from early. They opened with a 21-11 first quarter, controlled the boards 55-39, and held Umoja to 22.7 percent shooting from the field. Umoja still found flashes through Bienfait Kanane, who led the team with 17 points, while Victor Bosire added 9 and Dolph Benedict chipped in 8.
But Equity's control was too steady. Davis Siaji scored 15, Benjamin Muga added 11, and Marol Achei finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds. The painful number was time with the lead: Equity led for 39 minutes and 45 seconds. Umoja never truly got a grip on the game.
Then Came Sunday
Equity started fast again, taking the first quarter 16-8. For a moment, the danger signs were loud. But Umoja's second quarter changed the mood completely. A 25-10 response flipped the game, gave Umoja a 33-26 halftime lead, and reminded everyone that playoff pressure cuts both ways.
Victor Bosire carried the scoring load with 18 points, including 8-of-12 from the free-throw line. Bienfait added 15, while Agulet Malek delivered a huge all-round performance with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Thomas Mutiso also gave Umoja a massive lift on the glass, pulling down 15 rebounds as Umoja won the rebounding battle 58-53.
The shooting still left room for improvement. Umoja hit only 26.9 percent from the field and 10.3 percent from three. But this was a game won through persistence, second efforts, and refusing to let the series slip away. Umoja grabbed 28 offensive rebounds, scored 15 second-chance points, and got 32 bench points compared to Equity's 11.
Equity had chances. Denis Koja was strong with 10 points and 15 rebounds, Marol Achei added 10 and 10, while Davies Siaji and Rodney Sande also reached double figures. But unlike Game 1, Umoja did not allow Equity to dictate the entire evening.
This time, Umoja led for 24 minutes and 53 seconds. This time, they absorbed the punches. This time, they closed.
Now Everything Goes Through Game 3
Game 3 is no longer just a fixture. It is a decider. Equity have already shown they can control a game. Umoja have now shown they can answer. The numbers say both teams have had their say. The next forty minutes will decide whose voice carries into the next round.
For Umoja, the message is simple: bring the Game 2 fight, clean up the shooting, protect the ball, and own the glass again.
The quarter-final is alive.
And now, everything goes through Game 3.
